Actress and director Shannen Doherty was born April 12th, 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee. When her family moved to Los Angeles in 1978, Shannen declared that she wanted to be an actress. Her parents indulged her wish and Doherty was taken to auditions.
She began to have success by 1981 with guest role sin television shows like Voyagers! and Father Murphy. This led to a regular spot on the series "Little House on the Prairie" and Doherty stayed with the show until it was cancelled in 1983. Afterwards, Doherty was in several minor film roles and TV shows. In 1989, she was cast in the movie "Heathers". The movie became a hit and has a cult following today. After this success, Doherty landed the role of Brenda Walsh in "Beverly Hills, 90210" in 1990. She was nominated for a Young Artist Award for her role in the series in 1992. The show was a major success amongst teens and earned Doherty fame.
During this time period, Doherty appeared nude in "Playboy" magazine several times and also began to have problems with her costars. As a result, Doherty was kicked off the show after the fourth season. For the next few years, Shannen Doherty was seen in small roles and just one major lead in the 1995 movie "Mallrats". In 1998, Shannen Doherty again got a major role in a TV series, this time as Prue Halliwell in "Charmed". In addition to acting in the series, Doherty directed three of the episodes.
Shannen Doherty was married twice, once to Ashley Hamilton (son of George Hamilton) and then to Rick Salomon. She was also engaged to the actor Judd Nelson. In 2001, Shannen Doherty was in the tabloids after being charged with drunk driving.
